THE GAME PLAN

I want Cannabis Liberation Day to be Detroit’s Hash Bash, a yearly event that draws crowds from all over the country. There’s nothing more beautiful than going to Ann Arbor the first Saturday in April and seeing all the beautiful cannabis people, with their freak flags flying. I want this for Detroit. Just look at it as part of that Revitalization Plan we keep hearing so much about. You know the one. Where We bring Detroit back from the brink.

Sooner or later legalization must happen because the lies are wearing thin, even to Mom & Pop America. Cannabis Liberation Day is only a piece of the puzzle, but each piece needs support from the community to have a positive impact. The Hash Bash has become a global phenomenon because it has expanded, and this is what Liberation Day must do. EXPAND.

Expansion doesn’t just mean making things “bigger”, it means making it more interesting, provocative, and worthwhile. The Hash Bash is worthwhile. The Hash Bash is provocative. The Hash Bash is interesting. On May 7, 2011, one of two things is going to happen. Either we will have a decent event or a GREAT event. Which one is totally up to us. Does anyone out there want it to be merely acceptable? Or would you like to Rock The “D”?

Cannabis Liberation Day is:

Speakers. We have from High Noon until 7pm to feature various speakers on various topics. Each speaker will have 10 minutes to speak, and there should be no “Dead Air” between speakers. Want To Speak? Speak Up!

Music. Any musician or poet is welcome to perform a song or two as long as they’re about, you guessed it, De Herb.

Activism. We need to set up a row of compassion centers/growers/medical tents directly across the street from the event. Got any banners, posters, etc. that support De Herb? Bring them. Tents, Canopies, Booths. Bring them.  Friends. Family. Enemies. Bring Them. The idea is, Let’s Be Heard!

A Happening. Dancers. Hula Hoops. Fire Eaters.  This is a day of Celebration. A day of Hope. Give me Deadheads, Hempheads, Pinheads. I want people to be talking about Detroit Liberation Day long after it‘s over. Performance artists we need you. I don’t care if you make animal balloons. Come on down! Magicians, Illusionists, Mimes.

Volunteers. We are not making one cent off of this event. In fact, we’ll probably have to take a little bit of a bath when all is said and done. But we do it because we believe in this cause. We believe persecution of cannabis users, whether medical or otherwise, is WRONG! So, where’s our Souljahs at? How many more people must be brutalized by the system, have their lives shattered, and lose all their rights as citizens because they choose to use a plant? It’s our future, so it’s also our responsibility. Please lend a hand.

Legitimate. This event has nothing to do with anything illegal. We’re not drug users or lawbreakers. We’re productive citizens, parents, wage earners, brothers & sisters, consumers. We have no reason to hide. We love our communities and want to see changes beneficial to everyone. The Anti-Cannabis Laws are just plain stupid. And you don’t have to be a “stoner” to appreciate this. Millions of dollars are wasted annually busting, prosecuting, and incarcerating cannabis offenses, and a lot of this is for mere possession. Your money Middle America! Supporting the Drug War is like flushing your tax dollars down the toilet. So I approach this event with a renewed sense of confidence. We CAN make this happen. We CAN clear the way for future generations. And it’s all 100% Legitimate!

Detroit. We support the Motor City. Our event is about giving back to the community, providing a better way to live, a better way to medicate. Cannabis is no threat to anyone. It’s a plant!

The People. Finally, the heart of every initiative, every vote, every battle. No People, No Liberation.

April 7, 2011

30 Days Until Liberation! On May 7th, The “D” will be Freeing De Herb in Grand Circus Park. In spite of political opposition and 70+ years of prohibition, Mary Jane is coming on strong! She will rise above her oppressors. Our culture is poised to end this senseless war on cannabis users. We are armed with knowledge and we’re ready to use it!
Society, stop believing the LIES. You’re being brainwashed by a self-serving justice system that spends millions of dollars a year busting potheads, millions of YOUR hard earned dollars. And for what? Are your streets any safer? Are your children any more protected? These are LIES, and you must stop buying into them. Think for yourself. Cannabis has caused 0 (ZERO) deaths in 5000 years. Zero Deaths. We as a community cannot afford to support such laws

 Thank You.

Press Release

Why Cannabis Liberation Day?
The brainchild of Cures Not Wars Founder Dana Beal, Cannabis Liberation Day has evolved since it took its first steps more than ten years ago. Designed to be a day of celebration for the cannabis culture, it is also committed to freeing cannabis prisoners and legalizing De Herb world-wide. This will be the 11th year Detroit has hosted an event, and we would like it to be our biggest yet.

What’s Happening This Year?

Unlike past years, Michigan now has a firm Medical Marijuana law in place, and Cannabis Liberation Day will serve as a voice for all patients and caregivers in the Metro area. We are hoping to bring together every compassion center, grower, supporter, and medical professional and unite as ONE. Hemp has always been a key topic at Liberation Day and this year will be no exception. We’ll be promoting industrial, personal, and bio-fuel uses. Politically our event stands tall, inviting some of the area’s brightest minds and speakers to enlighten and educate about cannabis laws, and proposing solutions to the ‘Drug War’.  But the most important thing to remember is that Detroit Liberation is about positive change, positive vibes, and enriching the community.

How To Participate?

Detroit Liberation Day would not be possible without the people. Many believe that somehow this rally isn’t for them, that it’s not something they should be concerned about. Wrong! Cannabis arrests and prosecutions are costing tax payers millions of dollars a year. And the failed ‘War On Drugs’  is taking valuable law enforcement resources away from more important matters. With city and state budgets in so much trouble, can we as a community afford to keep wasting tax dollars on a failed drug agenda? No, every citizen who pays taxes, who wants safer communities, who believes in personal freedom should attend. We are all in this together.

The Liberation Game Plan

This Revolution Will Be Televised. We are asking that every media outlet, local business, and political body support the event as a Pro Detroit Initiative. We welcome any input or involvement from the community, including setting up donations for the homeless and other local charities. The rally will kick off at ‘High’ Noon with the National Anthem, and go until 4:00, when we’ll gather for the 4:20 march on Woodward Ave. Everyone is encouraged to bring a sign or banner, and we’ll have materials available to make your own sign when you get there. Anyone who would like to contribute some time and effort to help make this happen, including personal knowledge, a sound system, a professional stage, etc., please e-mail us at:
Fight.The.Power@hotmail.com. Or you can call Heidi at 734-678-9675. (Please don’t call after 10:00pm). This is a group effort, and we need all you beautiful people to participate.

Thank You For Your Time.

2011 is here and we can look forward to another year of positive legislation regarding cannabis and cannabis users. Medical marijuana has been approved in Michigan at last and we’re not going to stop there. The political machine will have to recognize that groups like NORML & Cures Not Wars are serious and will not yield to pressure from above. We are a United Front, united in our love of personal freedom and the joy of cannabis.

This year SWEETLEAF420 is helping to Free De Herb by co-sponsoring one of Michigan’s biggest pro-cannabis rallies, The 11th Annual Cannabis Liberation Day, in Grand Circus Park, Detroit, Michigan on May 7th, 2011. Of course the main sponsor of this event is Cures Not Wars, an organization started by renowned activist and freedom fighter Dana Beal. Mr. Beals’ recent bust in Wisconsin will most certainly play a part in this year’s event and we need all Michigan Freedom Fighters to participate. To those of you near and around Detroit, this event will represent the only local stop for Liberation Day, so we’d like to count on you for support. All volunteers are welcome and appreciated.

Updates for the 11th Annual Cannabis Liberation Day event in Grand Circus Park will be posted as they become available.
